JUNIPER - CHINESE (JUNIPERUS SINENSIS) - EVERGREEN tree originating from mountains of Japan is distinguished by rich, green, cloud-like foliage emanating from flaky, grey/brown BARK covered trunks which, in older speciMEns, can be gnarled and TWISTED with areas of naturally occuring, exposed "DRIFTWOOD".
Most common VARIETY used in BONSAI>BONSAI>BONSAI is Sargentii but Aurea, Japonica, Kaizuka and Pyramidalis are also used.

WARNING : Pot grown plants can shed branches as the tree does naturally in the wild. If extending SHOOTS are left uncut then inner foliage will die off, spoiling the overall SHAPE
Care Info
JUNIPER - CHINESE (JUNIPERUS SINENSIS) - REPOT : Every 2-5 years in spring. After 10 years inspect ROOTS annually but expect to repot every 5 years approximatly.
SOIL : Free draining soil 60:40 GRIT:organic. The addition of soME (20%) sphagnum moss provides added benefit.
PRUNE : May be pruned any time but late summer is best when sap is not rising fast and likely to cause BLEEDING.
PINCH : Pinch back growing tips with fingers continuously to maintain SHAPE and access to light. Avoid over-pinching which will promote "JUVENILE FOLIAGE".
WATER : Water well in growing season, keep moist in winter. JUNIPERS are surprisingly thirsty in winter.
FEED : BALANCED FEED in growing season, nitrogen free in autumn and a single applicaion of slow-release balanced feed in mid-winter.
